The Wilmore News, November 11, 1932.

LAURA HELEN PAYNE

Miss Laura Helen Payne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Payne, was born November 14, 1909, at Todd, N. C.

In 1911 she moved with her parents to the state of Oregon and in 1915 they located at Wilmore, Kansas. She was educated in the schools of Wilmore, graduating with the class of 1927. She attended the University of Ottawa at Ottawa, Kan., the term of 1927-28. She taught 1929-30.

She moved to Alva, Okla., in April, 1930 with her parents to complete her education at the Northwestern State Teachers College.

She was converted and joined the First Baptist Church of Wilmore, later moved her church membership to the First Baptist Church of Alva, Okla., where she held membership at the time of her death.

She passed this life Thursday, November 3, 1932, at 7:45 o'clock p.m. at the Alva general hospital at the age of 22 years, 11 months and 20 days.

She leaves to mourn her going, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Payne, and two sisters, Wanda and LaVaughn, all of Alva, Okla. She was preceded in death by an only brother, James Vurn, who died in infancy in 1908.

Everything that loving hands could do was done to relieve suffering and prolong life. Thirty different physicians examined her, but nothing more could be done, and she answered the great call that awaits us all. In her going a vacant place has been made that never can be filled. She cannot come back to us, but we can go to her.

The funeral was conducted at the Baptist Church, Wilmore, Kan., on Sunday, November 6, 1932, at 2:30. Sermon by the pastor, John P. Woods, assisted by Rev. A. F. Wasson, pastor of the Alva Baptist Church.

The body was laid to rest in Wilmore cemetery.
