Geneva Bell Pepperd

DODGE CITY - Geneva Bell Pepperd, 92, died June 20, 2004, at Good Samaritan Center, Dodge City.

She was born June 7, 1912, at Wilmore, the daughter of Thomas Christopher Pepperd and Bertha Ann (Bell) Pepperd. She graduated from Wilmore High School in 1930 and from Central Commercial College, Wichita. A Dodge City resident since 1943, formerly of Kinsley and Wilmore, she was a retired U.S. Government employee in the Department of Agriculture for 38 years.

She belonged to First Baptist Church, Keystone Sunday school class; and American Baptist Women, all at Dodge City. She was a 50-year member and past Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star St. Bernard Chapter No. 97. She was a member and past Worthy High Priestess of Mizpah Shrine No. 9 Order of White Shrine of Jerusalem and past President of Dodge City BPW, all at Dodge City.

She is survived by numerous cousins and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Margaret (Pepperd) Ridge.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater with the Rev. Don Rhodes presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wilmore Cemetery, Wilmore. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday June 29, at First Baptist Church, Dodge City, with the Rev. Don Rhodes presiding.

Memorials may be sent to Wilmore Community Center, in care of the funeral home.

Geneva Pepperd was a benefactor of the Wilmore Community.

The WILMORE OPRY Wilmore, Comanche County, Kansas.

"The Wilmore Opry has some exciting things happening lately. Last week we said we had a couple of things to share with you. The Wilmore Community Center is expanding! There will be enough extra room to store chairs, tables, concession items, the sound system and a much needed dressing room for the Opry. The Wilmore community and the surrounding communities are thankful for Geneva Pepperd's generous bequest which has made this possible. We will miss her. She was a nice lady. Geneva was able to be at the Opry last spring before she was called away to her heavenly home." -- Wilmore Opry News, 14 July 2004.
