The Coldwater community was saddened when they heard of the sudden death on Saturday, December 10, 1960, of John M. Platt, former Coldwater resident. His death occurred from a heart attack while returning from buying cattle in Clayton, N. M.Funeral services were held in the Evangelical and Reformed church in Hardtner, Kans., on Tuesday, December 13, 1960, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carl Ringer officiating.
Music was given by Wyonna Wolgamott who sang "Ivory Palaces" and Bob Sterling who sang "Home on the Range." They were accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Lynn Cundiff.
Pallbearers were Lester Lenertz, Don Robinson, Burke Burnett, David Cary and Bob Brass of Coldwater and Jim Mitchell of Medicine Lodge.
Services were in charge of Hill Funeral Home in Kiowa, Kans., with interment in Hardtner Cemetery, Hardtner, Kansas.
Obituary John M. Platt, son of Roy and Ellen Platt, was born October 6, 1916 at Medicine Lodge, Kans., and departed this life on Saturday, December 10, 1960, in Clayton, New Mexico, at the age of 44 years, two months and four days.
John attended grade school at Aetna, Kans., and was graduated from the Coldwater High school with the class of 1934. Following graduation he attended Kansas State University. On January 16, 1938, he was united in marriage to Lois Ohlsen of Hardtner, Kans. To this union was born one son, Jay W.
He leaves to mourn his untimely passing his wife, Lois, one son, Jay W., of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Platt, Lake City; one sister, Mrs. Joyce Reed, of Topeka; one brother, Mike, Pierre, S. D.; two aunts, Mrs. Charles Stants and Miss Beverly Platt, of Wichita; two nephews, Bill and Steve Reed, and a host of other relatives and friends as evidenced by the many beautiful floral tributes. A sister preceded him in death.
John spent his entire life in Barber and Comanche counties where he was active in ranching and farming. The entire community extends sympathy to the bereaved family.
