One of the heaviest rains that has visited this section for years fell last Monday evening between 3 and 6 o'clock. The water came down in regular sheets and was accompanied with considerable hail. Several windows were broken by hail stones. Some say they saw hail stones as large as hen and goose eggs, but the writer did not observe any quite so large. The water in the streets swelled to a small river and would have reminded one of being in the city of Venice - had there been gondolas at hand to accommodate travelers.
