Octia Fisher was born October 19, 1888 at Bucklin, Kans., to Dan and Maggie Fisher. She lived in Bucklin until 1907 when she moved with her parents to Wilmore. Wilmore has been her home since that time. Due to failing health she went to Ashland, Kans., in August of 1973 to live with her son and his wife, Glenn and Jessie. Her health continued to deteriorate and she entered the Ashland Personal Care Home, Fountain View Villa, where she remained until her death on March 22, 1977.Octia was married to Earl Nellis Redfield on July 26, 1908 in Wilmore, Kans. They moved to their home a few miles north of Wilmore.
To this union three sons and one daughter were born: Glenn, Typhena, George and Carl. Her husband, Earl, died February 26, 1918 and left Octia with four small children to rear. This she did lovingly and courageously with the help of her devoted parents, Dan and Maggie Fisher.
After her death of her husband, Octia moved from the farm to Wilmore to be near school. Education for her children was very important to her. She was completely devoted to her children and grandchildren and did without many of the luxuries of life so that she could further the education of her children.
She was a true friend to all who knew her and was especially kind to the friendless. No matter how busy she might be, she was always ready to listen to the troubles of another and to stop and visit with them.
She was active in a number of organizations. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints. As there was not a church near of that denomination she took a great interest in the Wilmore churches especially the Christian church, later the Federated church. She was a member of the W. S. C. S., a charter member of Wilmore Embroidery club, a charter member of Farm Bureau and the Sunflower clubs. She was responsible for the first 4-H club in Wilmore and was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
She was deeply loved by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. When the time came that she could no longer remain in her own home and with her friends, there was never heard a word of discontent. She loved the girls at Fountain View Villa and they in turn loved her and did everything they could do to try to make her happy.
She leaves to mourn her death a son, Glenn and wife, Jessie, daughter, Typhena Rock of Derby, Kans., son Carl and wife, Lil, of Sunnyvale, Calif., five grandchildren, two step grandchildren and six great grandchildren. A son, George, preceded her in death.
