Coldwater Merchant Passes After Short Illness in Hospital

Clarence Roberts is Victim of Pneumonia at Ashland Hospital

Funeral services for A. C. Roberts, prominent Coldwater merchant, were held from the Methodist Episcopal Church at Englewood Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. O. F. Boyd officiating. Mr. Roberts passed away at the Ashland Hospital Sunday evening at 6:10 after a short illness from pneumonia.

He was taken ill last Tuesday, but his condition was thought not to be serious until Friday when he was taken to the hospital. Mr. Roberts has been proprietor of the Roberts Produce and Grocery Store in Coldwater for over a year and has made many friends all over the county.

The pallbearers were L. A. Roberts, Lewis Roberts, Tom Roberts, Harry Dierking, J. C. Mahieu and C. H. Smith, all brothers, and brother-in-laws of the deceased. Internment was made in the Englewood cemetery. M. G. Stevenson of Ashland was funeral director.

The following obituary was read at the services:

Arthur Clarence Roberts was born August 16, 1897, in Beaver County, Oklahoma, and passed away at Ashland on April 8, 1934 at the age of 36 years, seven months and 23 days.

He was united in marriage to Miss Ethel Hart at Englewood on June 19, 1923. To this union one child, Bonnie Joy, was born.

Besides his wife and daughter he is survived by his mother, Mrs. E. E. Roberts of Englewood, Kan.; five sisters, Mrs. Charles Prescott, Englewood; Mrs. Hallie Snyder, Liberal; Mrs. Zelpha Kibbey, Wichita; Mrs. Nettie McDonald and Miss Effie Roberts, both of Los Angeles; and four brothers, A. L. Roberts, Englewood; T. C. Roberts, Ashland; E. L. Roberts, San Bernadino, Calif., and O. G. Roberts, Los Angeles, Calif.

Mr. Roberts is a brother-in-law of Mrs. C. H. Smith of this city.
