I was born to Larry "Dee" and Phyllis Scherich, January 29, 1961, in Ottawa, Kansas, where they were college students. While Mom & I were still in the hospital, Dad moved our trailer home to Troy, Kansas, where he started his first teaching job. The day they took me home to Troy from the hospital there were snowdrifts as high as the car. When we arrived at the trailer, Grandpa (Virgil Scherich) took me into the trailer to see Grandma (Mildred) and left my folks standing outside in the snow.

We moved to Inman, Kansas in 1964. I attended school there during elementary and middle school. I enjoyed school and sports and still have friends there. In 1976, we moved to the Merrill Ranch. I graduated from Coldwater High School in 1980. While in high school, I participated in football, basketball & track. I was elected to National Honor Society and served as Student Council President. During the summers and on weekends, I worked at the Merrill Ranch with my Grandpa, Dad, brothers and many other friends and neighbors.

After high school, I attended Kansas State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1985. During my college summers I completed internships at the Wichita and Sioux City, Iowa, Cargill plants processing soybeans. After graduation I went to work for Texas Utilities at the Comanche Peak Steam Electric Station (nuclear) during its final construction and start-up near Granbury, Texas. During that time I became a Registered Professional Engineer and was licensed by the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission as a Senior Reactor Operator. I am currently working with Wolf Creek Generating Station near Burlington, Kansas, as Assistant to the President and CEO.

I married Maria Rollins on October 29, 1988, in Fort Worth, Texas. Maria was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on April 23, 1961, to Clinton and Hiltrud Rollins. She graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Management Science and Computer Systems. She worked with IBM for ten years in their Fort Worth office as a Systems Engineer and Account Executive. Maria became a full time mother, chauffer, and volunteer after Kathryn was born.

Our daughter, Kathryn Ann Scherich, was born April 17, 1992, in Ft. Worth, Texas. Kathryn is an accomplished pianist and excels in school. On September 8, 1994, our son Ryan Keith was born in Topeka, Kansas. Ryan plays the violin and enjoys scouts and electronic games. Kathryn and Ryan both participate in Odyssey of the Mind, an international creative-thinking competitive event.

We always enjoy our trips back to the Merrill Ranch, Coldwater, and Comanche County!
