Eph Schrock died at 3:20 o'clock a.m. on last Tuesday, February 17, 1920, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bernard Stark, in Avilla-tp., 13 miles southeast of this city. His illness began about three months ago, when he was seized with a paralytic stroke while in Wichita. He remained in a hospital in that city for a few weeks, but the effects of the stroke remained with him. Returning to this county, he made his home with Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Stark. His condition gradually became worse and a while before his death complications of pneumonia set in. For a week or so before his death his condition was such that he was unable to talk, except with difficulty. He appeared to suffer very little, except from the weariness occasioned by his long sickness. Funeral services were conducted from the Stark home at 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon and were in charge of Rev. H. G. Porter of the Methodist church. Interment was in the Coldwater cemetery, where his wife and son, Guy, are also buried. Mr. Schrock had lived either in this county or near Coy, in Oklahoma, for about 18 years. For a while he and his family made their home in this city. Mr. Schrock thus became one of our well known citizens, and all regarded him as a good citizen and neighbor. His death removes the last but one - Mrs. Stark - of the family, his wife having died in this city on April 15, 1917, and their son, Guy A., died at Camp Sherman, Ohio, on October 4, 1918, while in the service of Uncle Sam. Mr. Schrock was a native of Iowa, having been born in that state on March 27, 1868. Had he lived until the 27th of next month, he would have been 52 years of age. He became a resident of Montgomery-co., Kansas, about 30 years ago. On October 26, 1893, in that county he was united in marriage with Miss Eva Deuel. The only surviving near relative, besides Mrs. Stark, is his mother, whose home is in Iowa, and some brothers and sisters who live in various parts of the country. There are also a few more distant relatives, some of whom live at Tyro, Kans., and who were present at the funeral.
