Mrs. Myrtle Smalley Dies at Fort Dodge

Came to Comanche County With Her Parents in 1884

Mrs. Myrtle Smalley passed away in the Fort Dodge Hospital November 22, after many years of declining health.

Funerals services were held in the Hatfield Funeral Home in Coldwater Monday, November 24, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ed Bridwell, pastor of the Christian church, in charge.

Raymond Cline sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "God Will Take Care of You," accompanied by Mrs. Junior Cline. Pallbearers were Herman Cole, Nig Atteberry, Albert Oller, Fred Booth, Clyde McMahan and Joe McMahan. Interment was in the Crown Hill cemetery near Coldwater.

Deceased was born January 23, 1880, and at the time of her death was 77 years, 9 months and 30 days of age. She was born in Tipton, Mo., to Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Cole and was two years of age when the family moved to Medicine Lodge in the early days. In 1884, the year Comanche county was organized, the family moved to Avilla township and settled on a claim, where the children were reared.

Mrs. Smalley is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Helen McMahan of Hot Springs, Ark., and Mrs. Evah Roberts of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one son, Charles Pieratt, of Larned, Kans.; one brother, P. M. Cole, of Coldwater and six grandchildren.

According to the article about her parents in Comanche County History, Myrtle May Cole's first marriage was to George McDonald.
