The Protection Post, August 5, 1909.

DIED - the little 11 months old baby of Leroy Smith and wife died on Saturday July 31st. The funeral conducted by Rev Horst was held from the Mennonite Church on Sunday. A large concourse of sorrowing friends accompanied the remains of the little one to Protection cemetery where interred. While the little one's life was brief its loss will be sadly felt by the bereaved parents. The sympathy of the entire community is extended them in their hour of trouble and sorrow.

According to Comanche County History, page 684, this child was named Evelyn Smith and was the daughter of LeRoy and Ethel (Cox) Smith.
