The Western Star, August 10, 1923.

C. E. Sparling

C. E. Sparling died on last Saturday afternoon at his home a few miles west of Wilmore, after an illness which began several weeks ago and which was the result of a complication of diseases.

Mr. Sparling formerly lived in Kiowa-co., later moving to near Liberal. About four years ago he moved to this county and purchased a portion of the Harbaugh farm just west of Coldwater. He made a number of improvements on the place, and lived there for a couple of years, when he traded his farm for hotel property in Wichita, and made that his home for a while. His home had been in this county since last spring. Mr. Sparling was held in high esteem by those who knew him. He was industrious and honorable, and was a good citizen in every sense of the word.

Deceased was born in Rensselaer, Ind., on June 10, 1877. His age, at the time of his death was 46 years, 1 month and 25 days. In the year 1902 in Haviland, Kans., he was united in marriage with Miss Ida Toennies, who with two daughters, Ernestine and Kathryn, and one son, Louis, survive him. Mr. Sparling had been a member of the Presbyterian church for several years, and he died with a saving faith to Christ. Funeral services were conducted on Monday afternoon from the Baptist church in Greensburg, and burial was made in the Greensburg cemetery. The bereaved family has the sympathy of all.
