Nescatunga Enterprise, July 24, 1886.

Last Sunday morning, Cread Strawn, the little six year old son of Grant Strawn, living a short distance south of Avilla was bitten by a rattlesnake. The little fellow and an older brother were going to the house of a neighbor, the oldest boy was ahead and was in the act of stepping over the snake when he discovered it, he gave a leap and uttered a warning cry to his little brother, but Cread was too near to escape and the reptile struck him twice. A physician was called and every thing was done that could be done to alleviate his sufferings, but to no avail, he died Sunday night. Mr. Strawn left last week for a visit to his old home town in Brown county, Illinois, little dreaming that ere he returned, one of the family circle would be so ruthlessly swept away.
