Clarence Taylor, 9 year old son of T. J. Taylor, was the victim of a fatal accident which occurred at Perry Wall's south place about 9 o'clock Tuesday morning. The child's head was crushed between a truck and the granary. A Coldwater physician was called immediately and left with the assurance that he felt hopeful. Clarence seemed to go through the day all right, but along in the evening he grew weaker and passed away at 6:10 o'clock. The child was playing around the granary when his older brother, Archie, was ready to take a truck load of wheat to Coldwater. As Archie started the motor, Clarence called to his sister, Mrs. John Hilt, who was at the house, telling her he believed he'd ride as far as the field. The youngster rushed to the rear of the truck and started to climb on as it pulled away from the granary. The pull at the granary killed the engine and the load of wheat ran back crushing the little fellow's head between the truck and the granary. It was impossible to free the child until the motor was started again.
Clarence was a boy of a happy disposition who won friends on all sides. His mother died when he was an infant and after her death he lived several years with his aunt, Mrs. Watts of Quinter, Kansas. When he reached school age he came to live with his father here. He had passed the third grade in the Wilmore schools. This summer he had greatly enjoyed the stay at the home of his sister, Mrs. John Hilt, and it was at the Hilt home where he met with the fatal accident.
The funeral was conducted from the Presbyterian Church in Coldwater Thursday afternoon with the Rev. T. F. Sowers, pastor of the Wilmore Baptist Church in charge of the services. The music was furnished by the Presbyterian choir. Six members of Clarence's Sunday School class who acted as pallbearers were Wade Fauscett, William Pendergraft, Wallace Foree, Raleigh Larimer, Fred Booth and Clair Cummings.
The immediate relatives who survive him are his father, one sister, Mrs. John Hilt, of Coldwater; two brothers, Archie and Cecil of Wilmore.
The sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended the bereaved family in the loss of their loved one.
