Friday afternoon at his home on the east side of Protection occurred the death of E. Teague from cancer of the stomach and though Mr. Teague had been in failing health for many months and at the time of his death was bedfast yet his death came as a surprise to the majority of the community as many did not know that he was so seriously ill. Mr. Teague moved to Protection some two years ago and had made his home here since that time. He was a man of quiet habits and a retiring disposition yet a staunch friend and a kindly and accommodating neighbor. The funeral was held at the M. E. church Saturday conducted by Rev. Tanksley and the remains were laid to rest in the Protection cemetery.
According to his gravestone in Protection Cemetery, his name was Elijah Teague.
