Roy Toothaker, well known Wilmore farmer, passed away at his home in the Wilmore community on Wednesday, September 26, the result of a heart attack.Funeral services were held in the Wilmore Christian church at 3:00 p.m. last Sunday with the minister, Rev. James Nicholas, in charge. A quartet composed of Rev. Noel Woods, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Dorsey and Mrs. F. H. Moberley sang "Beautiful River," "Face to Face" and "Sweetly Resting." Burial was in the Wilmore cemetery.
Obituary Roy Toothaker, son of Thomas Blakeway Toothaker and Mary Ellen Moore-Toothaker, was born September 1, 1882, in Nebraska and departed from this life September 26, 1951, at the age of 69 years and 19 days.
His mother passed away when he was four years old and he was reared by his father and step-mother, Nora Fitzgerald Toothaker. He spent his childhood and early manhood in several different states and lived the first three years of his married life in Pratt county, Kansas. In 1913, he, with his family, homesteaded in Bent County, Colorado, where they lived for 10 years. The remaining 28 years of his life he spent with his family in Comanche county.
On August 9, 1910, Roy was united in marriage with Mary Belle Huff of Cullison, Kans. To this union 13 children were born - three of whom passed away in early childhood - Austin, Verlie and Ethel. Also preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers: Jimmy, Loren and Melvin Toothaker; two sisters, Maude Adams and Elsie Toothaker and two grandsons.
Surviving him are his faithful wife, Mary; ten children - Mrs. Alice Baker of Protection, Mrs. Mabel Bogden of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Floy Nixon of Hamilton, Kans., Thomas Toothaker in the U. S. Navy, Mrs. Myrtle Clark and Mrs. May Gibson of Muncie, Indiana, Mrs. Fay Smith of Great Bend, Kans., Mrs. Bernice Smith of Lyons, Kans., Mrs. Melva Huck of Coldwater and David Toothaker of the home; three brothers - Earl and Blake of Cullison and Rex of Cimarron; three sisters - Mrs. Myrtle Primrose of Sheldon, Mo., Mrs. Flora Sellers of Cullison and Mrs. Mary Center of Rock Island, Ill., five grandsons, three granddaughters, several nieces and nephews and a host of neighbors and friends.
Mr. Toothaker accepted Christ as his savior and united with the United Brethren church in Stafford county when but a boy and remained true to his vows until death. He and his father helped build the Chickasha Indian Mission in Oklahoma.
Mr. Toothaker was a faithful, kind, loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all.
