In the passing away of Mrs. B. S. Von Schriltz at her home in Dodge City on Sunday, December 21, the community in which she lived lost one of the best of women, and the surviving husband and children a devoted wife and mother. Mr. and Mrs. Von Schriltz were among the early day settlers in Comanche-co., settling first on a claim a few miles north of Protection, and later moving to this city, where Mr. Von Schriltz was engaged in business for a number of years. About ten years ago the family moved to Dodge City, and they continued to make their home there.Mrs. Von Schriltz's health began to fail several months ago, inward cancer being the cause. Everything possible was done to alleviate her suffering, but the progress of the disease could not be stayed. As the end came Mrs. Von Schriltz showed complete resignation as she was prepared in every way for the event of death. During all her life she had manifested the spirit of Christ in her patience, her devotion to her family and friends and her sublime christian faith. She had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for many years, and was an active worker in the various departments of the church. She helped build a home in a new country, and hence well knew what pioneer life, with all its struggles against adversities, means. In every duty as a wife, mother and citizen, she had done well her part, and all who knew her esteemed her. Of her, all say, "She was a good woman." Her influence for better things and higher ideals in life will outlast the material things of life. Her memory will long live in the hearts of many who knew her.
Burial was made in the Dodge City cemetery on Tuesday of last week, December 23. Besides her husband, Mrs. Von Schriltz is survived by three daughters and three sons, as follows: Mrs. H. E. Myers of this city, Mrs. Carl Sever of Garden City, Mrs. Gaylen Pyle of Dodge City, D. W. Von Schriltz of Pratt, Guy W. Von Schriltz of Pittsburg and Burrel H. Von Schriltz of Sylvia, Kans. At the time of her death Mrs. Von Schriltz was 66 years, 4 months and 27 days of age.
