Aljoe C. Watters, 85, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1993 in Dodge City.He was born Sept. 4, 1908 in Frederick, Kans. to Charles and Elizabeth Carlton Watters. The family moved to Sterling where he graduated from high school in 1927 and Sterling College in 1931.
After graduation, he ministered at the Abbyville Baptist Church and later the Scott City Baptist Church before going to Eastern Baptist Seminary in 1934. In 1937 he went to the Greensburg Baptist Church.
On May 1, 1938, he married Mary Belle Larimer in Greensburg.
He joined the U. S. Army Air Corps as a chaplain in 1941. He served in New Guinea for two years, where he served five chapels. In 1946 he went to the Clay Center Baptist Church. While there he finished his seminary training at Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City. He then went to the First Baptist Church in Hiawatha. While there he obtained his master's in religious education. His next church was in Paola, before going to work for the American Cancer Society in 1958. He retired in 1974 and then ministered in the Minneola and Wilmore Baptist Churches. He has been a resident of the Trinity Manor Nursing Home for the past eight years.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Noons Lions Club, and Sagebrush Singers, all in Dodge City.
Survivors include wife Mary Belle Watters, Dodge City, three sons: Darrell, Beloit; Jerry, Mesquite, Tex.; Don, St. Louis; one brother Mearle, Wichita; one sister, Edna Callison, Hannibal, Mo.; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral was Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1993, at the First Baptist Church, Dodge City, with Rev. Kirk Larson officiating. Burial was in Wilmore Cemetery with Rev. Herman Lambrecht in charge.
Family suggests memorials be made to Trinity Nursing Home or the First Baptist Unified Mission Budget, in care of Swaim Funeral Home, 1901 6th Ave. Dodge City, KS. 67801.
