W. S. Wegand, a former Coldwater resident, died in a Ada, Oklahoma, hospital last Sunday after a lingering illness. He had been brought to Ada by Noble McGinnis of the McGinnis Funeral Home of Sasawka, Okla., about two weeks before. The cause of his death was cancer of the throat.The body was brought to Coldwater in the McGinnis hearse on Thursday for the funeral services which were held at 2:30 p.m. in the Methodist church in this city. Rev. Oscar Matthew, the pastor, had charge of the service. Burial was in Crown Hill cemetery near this city. The pall bearers were J. W. Brewer, H. H. Kopke, Earl Martin, B. F. Arnold, Oscar Taylor and Martin L. Zerby.
Obituary. William S. Wegand was born April 25, 1864, at Cedar Lake, Iowa and departed this life at Valley View hospital, Ada, Okla., at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 2 days.
On September 12, 1915, he was united in marriage with Miss Mary Myrtle Cox of Zenda, Kansas. They made their home in Coldwater, Kansas, until 1944 when they moved to Wichita, Kansas.
To this union one daughter was born - Mrs. Henrietta Sooter. There were three daughters and three sons by a former marriage - Mrs. Josie Thomas, Brainerd, Minn., Mrs. Winnie Haines and Miss Gladys Wegand, Wellington, Kansas; Roy Wegand, Howard, Kansas; W. S. Wegand, Jr., Wellington, and Roman Wegand, who preceded him in death.
He is survived also by 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one brother, Edward Wegand of Omaha, Nebr., and one sister, Mrs. Mae Ritz of Omaha.
Mr. Wegand "was a resident of Coldwater for many years before moving to Coldwater" (sic). He was a conscientious painter, an honest citizen and a kind husband and father.
