Vernie White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal White, was recently transferred to Harding Field, Baton Rouge, La., where he is receiving training in a bombing squadron.Jack Taylor of Coldwater, who had been at Fort Rosecrans, Calif., is now in an officers training school at Fort Benning, Ga. He has been in the army more than two years.
Pvt. Roger Lehman, who entered the service last May 14, was sent to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Ind., where he spent eight weeks and is now in the Camp Finance Office at Camp Blanding, Florida.
Albert Wall, son of Mrs. O. J. Wall of Coldwater, is still with the Signal Corps, and his address is now, care Postmaster, New York City, N. Y., which makes it look as though he will soon be going places.
Clyde T. Giles (known as Billie) is in the army, and for some time has been in the air corps, stationed at the pre-flight school at San Antonio, Tex., where he was taking training to be an instructor. He will soon be, if not already transferred to Santa Ana, Calif.
Lyle Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Martin, went to Wichita on Thursday and was accepted as a member of the U. S. Marine Corps, and will go into training at once. He was accompanied to Wichita by his parents and sister Jaqlyn, also by F. J. Keesee and Miss May McDonold.
Jack White, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry White, on Thursday of last week was sworn into the army as an aviation cadet, having passed the required tests at Fort Riley. He returned home and is awaiting his call to active training. He is the second son of the Whites to "make" the air corps as a cadet.
Dr. G. W. Wright of Coldwater has enlisted in the army as a physician and will receive a captain's commission. He will probably enter active service soon. Dr. Wright has previously spent six years in the navy as a medical officer and is a capable physician and surgeon.
Kansas City, Missouri, August 20. - Robert Edwin Gilchrist, son of Sylvester J. Gilchrist of Coldwater, has been sworn into the Navy under the new V-1 program, it was announced here today by Lieutenant J. H. Evans, head of the Navy Recruiting Station. Under the V-1 setup, he will be permitted to either complete two years of college and enter flight training or complete his academic course and enter officer training school, after which he will be commissioned an ensign in the U. S. Naval Reserve.
The other son of Mr. & Mrs. Harry White who was in the USAAF was Lt. Donald White, who became Missing In Action 14 February 1943.
