The Protection Post, May 15, 1953.

Ralph Zane Taken By Death

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Methodist Church for Ralph "Mose" Zane who passed away last Friday in the Veterans hospital at Wichita.

Mr. J. H. Lynch, minister of the Christian Church conducted the services.

Mrs. George Cushman, Mrs. Orlando Callaway, Edgar Deck and Clarence Harden sang "Beautiful Isle" and "The Old Rugged Cross." They were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Lewis Hopkins.

Casket bearers were Bill Cochran, Melvin Thornhill, Orville Thornhill, Frank Barnhart, Bill Schultz and Cliff Todd.

The flag draped casket was escorted by the American Legion firing squad.

Interment was in the Ashland cemetery.

OBITUARY

Ralph C. Zane, son of Ben and Louella Zane, was born September 11, 1896 at Lexington, Kans., and passed away at the Veteran's Administration Hospital, Wichita, Kans., May 8, 1853, at the age of 56 years, 7 months, and 27 days.

His early life was spent at the farm home near Protection. He enlisted in the United States Army ar Dodge City, Kans., in the First Aero Squadron Signal Corps. Due to injuries received while in training at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, he was honorably discharged December 20, 1917.

He was married to Florence Lawrence February 6, 1930 in Wichita, Kans.. To this union were born two sons, Benny of the home and Robert serving in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier, Boxer, and is now in Korean waters.

Although physically handicapped he was never known to complain of his afflictions, always interested in civic activities, high school and community athletics, and was a member of the Burghardt Post of the American Legion.

His father, mother, and two brothers, Boone and Roscoe, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; two sons, Benny and Robert; two sisters, Mrs. M. F. Lamkin, Wichita, Kans., and Mrs. Grover Carter, Colo.; three brothers, Crawford, Pueblo, Colo., M. K. and Ben F., both of Protection, Kans.; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
