Submitted Death Records

Below are death records that have been submitted to this Bibb County site by contributors. If you have ancestors that died in your County prior to 1920 (or the ancestor was born in the 1800's), you may submit them to me for inclusion on this page. (If you have more than 10 death records, if possible, please submit them in alphabetical order.)

Hinkle, Nancy - Died at Halstead, Harvey County, Kans., on Saturday, August 17th, 1872, Mrs. Nancy Hinkle, aged 78 years. (The Newton Kansan, Thursday, August 22, 1872).

Jones, Randolph "Duffy" - WWI Veteran.  Randolph "Duffy" Jones, 81, 533 W. Broadway, formerly of Great Bend and a retired Shell Oil Co. employee, died Thursday evening at the Presbyterian Manor.  Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Petersen's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Duwayne Hintz officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  He was born Oct. 17, 1899, in Berryville, Va., the son of J. T. L. and Sue Jones. He retired from the Shell Oil Co. after 42 years service with the company, and moved to Newton from Great Bend 13 years ago.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War I. He was a member of St. Luke United Presbyterian Church in Newton.  Survivors include his wife, Naomi Prater Jones, of the home; one son, John R. Jones of Wichita; and one granddaughter.  Friends may call at the funeral home until service time. A memorial has been established for the Church. Memorial gifts may be left with the staff at the funeral home. (The Newton Kansan, Newton, Kansas. Friday, February 27, 1981. Page 12A).

Prouty, S.H. - Word has been received of the death of S. H. (Cy) Prouty which occurred at Colorado Springs.  He was a brother of Cap. Lewis, Frank and John Prouty and of Mrs. Will Angood and Mrs. Mary Commons.  The body will be received here at the Northfoss Mortuary. (The Newton Kansan, September 26, 1910.  Reprinted in the Evening Kansan-Republican, Newton, Kansas, Thursday September 26, 1935, Page 6).

Ryan, James - James Ryan, ex-sheriff of Harvey County, died this morning at 7:15 o'clock at his home in Halstead, after an illness of several weeks.  Mr. Ryan was born in 1840 and located in Halstead township in 1871.  He was at one time sheriff of Harvey County.  The funeral services will be held Monday at 10:00 o'clock a.m. in the Catholic Church.  The body will be buried in the Halstead cemetery.  (The Newton Kansan, May 9, 1908.  Page 4).
