Lincoln County has been served a number of newspapers since the early 1870s. The earliest, the Lincoln County News, began publication in 1873. The county's newspapers were partisan in the early days, with both a Lincoln Democrat and Lincoln Republican in operation at various times. Another paper, the Banner, was co-edited by the Waits, a husband and wife team who advocated strongly for suffrage, among other issues.
In the late 1920s, the county's two surviving publications merged to form the Lincoln Sentinel-Republican, which is the county's only paper today.
Old editions of the county's newspapers have been culled for news and society items, as well as items that show a flavor of the times. Those can be found on the Newspaper gleanings page.
Obituaries and indexes of obituaries can be found on the Obituaries and death notices page.
