COUNTY FORMATION

Marshall County was one of the original 33 counties organized by the Territorial Legislature in 1855. It was named in honor of Frank J. Marshall, a state representative who operated the first ferry over the Big Blue River.

Marysville is the county seat. It was named after Frank Marshall's wife, Mary.
