I'm looking for an historical verification. My Grandmother, born Anna Westfall Johnson in Saline Co. Kansas, on 1 August 1887, was told that she was born in a construction tent as her parents were there as transients. He father, Ephraim Adelbert Johnson was either a civil engineer or a levee contractor. She was told that they were there building a levee. Two years later they were in Natchez, Mississippi and after that in Little Rock Ark. Since these are river towns with levee systems the latter occupation seems possible. I'm trying to verify levee construction in Saline Co. at the time of Anna's birth. Was there any other type of type of construction that waould have drawn a civil engineer such as bridge cinstruction or railways? My grandmother was proud of her Kansas origin and planted Sunflowers each year to honor her birth place. She was able to visit the state again several years before her death and enjoyed the trip greatly. Milton Wells

(12/07/1880), Lewis (1/6/1883), Agnes (Feb 1885), Oscar (Jan 1888), Henry R. (Apr 1890), Caroline "Carrie" (Oct 1892), Nellie (Jul 1894), then Clarence (12/27/1897), and possibly a Lillian (abt. 1913). Clarence's father was John Ludwig (1/21/1840). John Ludwig's brothers and sisters are as follows in apparent order of birth. Frederick (1829), August Martin (11/11/1831), then John Ludwig, then Louis (5/27/1842), and Adolph (11/14/1848). In addition there was one sister. Her name was Sophia or Christina or both. When she came to USA (abt. 1872) she had a daughter (possibly Emma) born abt. 1860. In what order she came in the brother line I do not know. I do know that in 1874 she was living either in Geary, Clay, or Riley county of Kansas. Any help with this would certainly be appreciated and anything I have is yours for the asking. Dennis J. Wallace of Salina, KS
