DOUGLAS
Daniel Douglas McDougal, was born March 22, 1858, in Boston and
answered the final summons from his home in Rock, Kansas, March 5, 1922.
He
was educated in the schools of his native state and early chose the career of a
teacher. Heeding the call of the west he came to Butler County, Kansas in 1884,
where success crowned his work as an instructor. In completing his professional
training he pursued his studies at Kansas State - Normal at Emporia. It was
while conducting a school in North Butler county tha he t met and won for his
bride, Miss Ella Varner. They married at DeGraff, May 4, 1890. Their home was
near Augusta until January 1902 when they moved to Rock to the home from which
he was called to his last reward.
As an infant he was dedicated to God in
Baptism and his life has been one of faith. He united with Economy M.E. Church
near Pontiac and later transferred to Rock. As Sunday school superintendent and
leader of the Gospel Team he has devoted his talents to the work of the church.
The patience shown in the closing months of his suffering testify his enduring
faith. Often he voiced his testimony, "We have here no abiding City, but we seek
one to come." His soul stirred even to the closing days in answer to songs which
were sung at home.
Mr. McDougal was a member of Douglass Lodge No. 151, A. F.

wife of Rock, and other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services
were held at Rock M.E. Church and were conducted by Rev. R. L. Wells. The burial

MILLER, EMILY JANE (ROBINSON)
Emily Jane Robinson was born October 7,
1860 in Wills county, Illinois, died July 20th , 1917 at the Bethel Hospital,
Newton, Kansas, where she had been for an operation.
She came to Kansas in
the fall of 1871 with her parents settling on a farm in Milton township near
Brainerd.
She was married to Mr. John Miller of Murdock township February 15,

living but one, the youngest, Maud, who preceded her seventeen months ago. The
remaining children are: Mrs. Lena Kasenburg near Benton, Kansas; Elsie A. of
Potwin, Kansas; John, Allen, George, Henry, and Frank, all of Murdock township.
Mr. Miller died about eight years ago, soon after which, Mrs. Miller moved to
Whitewater, where she resided until her death. She was a devoted wife and
mother, and a good neighbor; always rendering kindness wherever she could. She
had been ailing a number of years but her recent illness lasted only a few days,
consequently the end came as a shock to relatives and friends.

children, she leaves an aged mother, Mrs. Harriet Robinson of Whitewater, three

MILLER, MAUDE
M.
Maude M. Miller was born November 15, 1896. She was the youngest child of
a family of nine, six boys and three girls. She was converted and joined in the
Methodist Church of Whitewater in the year 1914. Maude had been a sufferer for
eighteen months, which finally took her to the hospital at Newton for an
operation, where she died.
Her death was sudden and came as a surprise to
relatives and friends alike, just blooming into womanhood; just when life is the
sweetest, and when plans are the largest, and joy is living is the greatest.
Maude lived a Christian life, the best she knew, and was a constant attendant at
the Sabbath School and Church. She leaves not only her relatives to mourn her
loss, but her class mates in the Sunday School and a host of others to mourn her
departure.
Flowers are beautiful and have a language of their own. But it is
said, "Kind words can never die." Death has visited our city a number of times
of late. We know not who will be the next. Let us give the Bouquets of Kind
Words now, for we are quite sure they will be more greatly enjoyed when living
than when one is dead.
[Note: Maude Miller is the daughter of John Miller &
Emily Robinson Miller they lived in Murdock township.]

work. He was a lover of the soil and spent many of his last days in his yard and
garden of which he was very proud.
He had great affection for his children
and grandchildren and always took a great interest in their activities and
