Ivy No Nations Boles

Ivy No Nations Boles, age 95, died March 28, 1985 in Emporia.

Married to Walter Edwin Boles, Ivy lived in the Comanche County area from 1919 until 1942. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1942. At that time, she moved to Manhattan where she resided until August of 1984.

Ivy was born Nov. 11, 1889, in Alton, Mo., the daughter of Cynthia Josephine Test and Dr. John Logan Nations. She attended Teachers' Normal School in Springfield, Mo. Ivy married Walter Boles Dec. 25, 1910. Prior to and following her marriage, Ivy taught school in Missouri and became the highest paid teacher in the state. This teaching began Ivy's lifelong interest in youth and education.

Ivy and Walter with their children moved to Wichita in 1918 where she cooked for the harvest hands while her husband helped with the harvest. In 1919 the Boles moved to Coldwater; from 1922-24 Walter taught in the Booth School. In 1924 they established residence in Wilmore where Walter was rural mail carrier. She and her family lived in the third house north of the railroad tracks on the west side of town. The house has since been moved to the south side of town.

Ivy was a member of the Wilmore Methodist Church and taught Sunday School classes for many years. A supporter of the Wilmore basketball team, she often cooked "pre-game" dinners for members of the team and was class mother many times over the years. She always enjoyed attending the Wilmore High School reunions.

Her survivors include five sons: Walter E., Dallas, Texas; Robert J., Emporia; Hobart P., Manhattan; Daniel N., West Covina, Calif.; Ronald J., Ellensburg, Wash.; two daughters, June Goff, Kirkwood, Mo.; Rosemary Harvey of Wichita; 15 grandchildren, five step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; one step great great grandchild. She is also survived by her older sister, Mysie Utley, Dexter, Mo.; and brother, Carl Nations of Seminole, Fla.

A Memorial has been established with the Comanche County Historical Society in care of Mrs. Valtos Richardson, Coldwater.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 20 1895 with graveside services at 11 a.m. at the Wilmore cemetery. Ivy's grandson, Pastor Drue Boles, will officiate.

Following the graveside service, there will be a covered dish luncheon at the Wilmore Methodist Church for family and friends.

H. Mack Nations, brother of Ivy (Nations) Boles.
