Obituary:
Fred Stanley Booth

Fred Stanley Booth, 85, died June 19, 2001, at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt.

He was born Aug. 22, 1915, in Kiowa County, north of Wilmore, the son of William Baird Booth and Lillie May (Klutz) Booth. A lifetime resident of the Wilmore area and a 1935 graduate of Wilmore High School, he attended Wichita State University.

He managed Wilmore Lumber Yard for 30 years and was a farmer and rancher. A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a tail gunner on a B-24 during 1944 and 1945.

He was a lifetime member of Wilmore Baptist Church and a member of the Wilmore volunteer Fire Department for 38 years, serving as fire chief for many years. He was a charter member of Wilmore Lions� Club, a Boy Scout volunteer and was a volunteer for the Mental Health Association. He served on the Wilmore City Council and was mayor of Wilmore for many years.

On Nov. 28, 1943, he married Betty Prater at Newkirk, Okla. She survives.

Other survivors include: several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Arnold Booth; and three sisters, Hazel Lawler, Naomi Vardaman and Bertha Richardson.

Funeral was Saturday, June 23, 2001, at United Methodist Church in Coldwater, the Rev. Kent Little presiding. Burial followed the service in Wilmore Cemetery at Wilmore.

Memorials may be sent to Wilmore Community Center, Wilmore Volunteer Fire Department or to the Comanche County Museum, all in care of Hatfield Prusa Funeral Home, P. O. Box 417, Coldwater, Kans. 67029.
