MARY POWELL DOWNING

Mary Powell Downing, daughter of Rev. E. A. and Sarah (Davison) Downing, was born at Mound Ridge, Kansas, March 8, 1893, and passed away at her home in Wilmore, Kansas, May 5, 1933 at six in the morning. Her age was 40 years, 1 month, and 27 days.

She was united in marriage with Marvin Theodore Downing, September 17, 1911, and to them were born seven children.

In evidence of her faith in Jesus and his church, she became a member of the Wilmore Methodist Episcopal Church, May 29, 1928, and was faithful to it until her call came to come and be with God.

Although in ill health for two years and a great sufferer for many months, she testified to her trust in God, and of her readiness to obey his summons to the better world. She has gone to join her father and her two brothers in awaiting the resurrection morning on the hills of God.

Those left behind to miss her sunny smile and kindly word, her mother, her husband, two daughters, Myrtle Pearl and Dorothy Elizabeth; five sons, Edgar William, James Alonzo, Robert Lee, Donald Ned and Orlin Arlo; also three brothers, many relatives and friends who will be lonesome without her presence.

The funeral services were held in the church at Wilmore, May 6, being conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. M. Alexander assisted by Rev. Wood of the Baptist church. A quartet composed of L. E. Baker, A. V. Bigbee, Virgil Alexander and Roderick Bake sang "Abide with Me," "Jesus Savior, Pilot Me," and "It is Well with My Soul."

The body was laid to rest in the Wilmore cemetery.
