Funeral for Rex Layne Gray of Wilmore was held at Wilmore Friday afternoon. He died at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita on Wednesday, July 17, 1996.
He lived to the age of 45 years. Mr. Gray was severely injured in a vehicle mishap near Wilmore during June. He died as a result of those injuries.
Gray was born on December 11, 1930 in Wichita, and was the son of William and Patsy McCord Gray. He married Tammie Tobias of Protection on February 11, 1989, at Wichita. She is among his survivors.
He was a retired firefighter, and had worked for the Wichita Fire Department for 25 years. He graduated from Derby High School in 1968, and later graduated from Butler County Community College at El Dorado with an associate degree in Fire Science.
A Wilmore resident since August of 1993, he moved there from Wichita.
Mr. Gray was a member of the Enterprise Christian Church of Wichita, the Wichita Firefighters Union and the Wilmore Fire Department.
Other survivors include in addition to his wife of the home, are two sons, Matthew of Wichita and Jonathan of Wilmore; a daughter Reagan of Wilmore; stepfather and mother Franklin and Patsy Ambler of Wichita, and three sisters, Terri Thompson of Huntsville, Alabama, Cathy Gary of Wichita, and Patty Dobbins of Austin, Texas.
Funeral was Friday afternoon at the Wilmore Federated Church. Burial was in the Wilmore Cemetery. Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home of Coldwater was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials for Rex Layne Gary may be made to the Wilmore Fire Department or to the Comanche County Hospital, both in care of the funeral home.
