Leonard D. Hadley passed away Saturday, February 8, 1969, in the Kiowa County Hospital in Greensburg, Kans.Funeral services were held on Monday, February 10, 1969, at 2 p.m. at the Hatfield Funeral Home in Coldwater, Kans., with Rev. Major W. Parker and Rev. J. D. Stanley in charge of the services. Raymond Cline sang "When I've Gone the Last Mile of the Way" and "God Understands," accompanied by Mrs. Hazel McMurray, organist.
Pallbearers were Larry Denney, Leroy Shelton, Carl Burkhall, John Black, John Burt, and Ted Riner. Honorary pallbearers were Allen Cline, Kenneth Trummel, Jim Monroe, Victor White, Loyd Ward, Mort Newton, V. W. Seyfrit, Richard Jarnagin, Bennie Bain, and Clyde Denney.
Interment was in Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater, Kans.
Obituary Leonard Davies Hadley, son of Enos T. and Nellie (Leonard) Hadley, was born May 28, 1903 at Coldwater, Kans. He passed away in the Kiowa County Hospital February 5, 1969 after suffering a severe heart attack on February 1.
Leonard was a lifelong resident of Comanche county. He attended New Home rural school and grew to manhood in that community.
He served in the United States Army during World War II. After his discharge in 1943, he was employed by the Comanche county highway department and operated a road maintainer. He took pride in his work and enjoyed talking about it.
"Pete," as he was known to many was born five miles north of Coldwater in the sod house built by his parents when they came from Indiana to Comanche county in 1900. Having been born in a sod house, he was entitled to be a member of the "Soddies Association of Kansas," an honor of which he was very proud. His mother often referred to him as their "sod house boy." He joined the Friends church at an early age.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and a younger brother, Forrest W.
He is survived by three brothers, Gloyd C., Coldwater; Thomas G., Eldorado Springs, Mo.; and Seth C., Merriam, Kans.; one sister, Florence M., Hugoton, Kans.; two aunts, Grace Swaim, Bloomingdale, Ind., and Ruth Witsman, Newton, Ill.; and an uncle, Perry S. Leonard, Tangler, Ind.
Also surviving him are Mildred A. Schrock of Coldwater, a cousin with whom he had made his home for many years, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and host of friends.
