The Protection Post, November 7, 1918.

GORY HART DIES

Another of the substantial farmers of near Protection has been called from among us. Mr. Gory Hart to whom the summons came on the 31st of October after an illness of twelve weeks, at the St. Mary's Hospital at Winfield, Kansas. Sickness and death resulting from a cerebral abscess.

The remains were brought to Protection on Nov. 1st accompanied by his wife and small son and her father, Mr. Levi Nichols. He was laid to rest in the Protection Cemetery, after a night spent in his home 7 miles northeast of Protection.

Gory Hart was born Sept. 21, 1887 near New Haven, West Virginia. He came to Kansas in 1909 and has lived near Protection the past 8 years. He was married to Miss Lillie Myrtle Nichols on August 7, 1919 and to this union one son was born. He was converted in the winter if 1910, and united with the Protection M. E. church in the winter of 1916. Gory was of a kind hearted disposition that made and held friendships highly, also a son that talked and thought much of his old home, and it was his intention to visit this fall with his family.

He is survived by his wife and son, aged five years, a father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Hart, and one brother, Carl of Letart, West Virginia, a sister, Mrs. E. E. Fisher of Lewis, Kansas. His sister and family also an uncle, Geo. McDaniel, and his daughter, Hazel of Zenda, Kansas were in attendance at the services.

The services were conducted in his home, at 2:30 p.m. November 2nd, by Rev. P. L. Mawdsley, now of Larned circuit, a particular friend of the family, assisted by Rev. Ragsdale and Rev. Franklin of Protection.

With a happy home, among his friends
'tis hard that life, thus early ends.
Just why, we cannot see or know,
Yet ever, thus all flesh must go.

Death follows life along this way,
And so it is, night follows day,
Your day of love, serene and fair,
Has come to a night of dark despair.

This night of sorrow has a dawn,
With husband and father forever gone.
There's a tiny light that gleams afar,
Friends are the rising morning star.

So hearing the morning larks refrain,
Gather the courage, to build again,
With broken plans, heart broken too.
God offers strength to build anew.

His tender heart in pity now
Sees sorrows lines upon your brow,
Yet knows that heaven shall repay
All we suffer on life's hard way.

Isn't it wonderful, God should lead,
Furnish us daily what we need,
Call us home when life's to hard,
With pain and sorrow forever barred.

Mrs. Nettie Parks.
