Mrs. H. C. Hecht, who was well known in this county, died at 5 o'clock a.m. on last Sunday, April 1, 1923, in Athol, Kans., at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Amanda Simmonds, after an illness of several weeks. The body was brought to Coldwater on Wednesday and laid to rest in Crown Hill cemetery by the side of her husband, who died on October 9, 1921. Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian church and were in charge of the pastor, Rev. A. Frank Johnson, Jr.

At the time of her death Mrs. Hecht was 61 years and 10 months of age. She was born in Clayton-co., Iowa, on May 31, 1861. Her name before her marriage was Anna Meyer. On March 1, 1878, in Longbranch, Neb., she was united in marriage with H. C. Hecht. Mr. and Mrs. Hecht were among the pioneer settlers in northern Kansas, living in Nemaha and Smith-co's for a number of years before coming to Comanche-co in 1909. From this county they moved, about three and a half years ago, to Clovis, New Mexico, where they made their home until after Mr. Hecht death. Since that time Mrs. Hecht had made her home with her children, principally with her daughters in Athol, Kansas.

The deceased was one of the kindest and best of wives and mothers, a good neighbor and a friend to all. Wherever she had lived there remain people who will long remember her because of her many kind deeds and her devotion to the highest ideals of motherhood. She is survived by seven sons and three daughters; Henry C. of this city, Mrs. Sophia Wagner of Clovis, New Mexico, David W. of this city, Mrs. Emma Gordon of Athol, Kans., Alvin H. of this community, Ernest C. of Smith center, Kans., Reuben L. of Aetna, Kans., Mrs. Amanda Simmonds of Athol, Kans., Richard of Coldwater and Marvin of Clovis, New Mexico. All of the children except Marvin were present at the funeral. Besides these children there are twenty eight grandchildren. Three brothers and four sisters also survive her: William Meyer at Athol, Kans., Henry Meyer at Lincoln, Nebraska, and August Meyer at Auburn, Nebraska, Mrs. Martha William and Mrs. Amelia Cooper of Holdridge, Nebraska; Mrs. Sophia Williams at Phillipsburg, Kansas, and Mrs. Mary Buchley at St. Joseph, Mo.

Mrs. Hecht united with the Coldwater Presbyterian church March 14, 1915, coming to the church from the Lutheran church. A number of her children also have their names enrolled on the membership list of this church.

The bereaved family have the sympathy of many friends.
