George R. Herd Dies Following Heart Attack

George Robert Herd, 73, farmer died Monday evening following a heart attack.

He was born October 16, 1889, at Charity, Mo., and married Bertha Agnes Harmon May 5, 1909. The couple moved to Protection in 1915.

Mr. Herd was a member of the Protection Baptist church.

He is survived by the widow, of the home, six daughters, Mrs. Doris Coles, El Paso, Texas, Mrs. Velma Wimmer, Protection; Mrs. Maxine Brewer, Mrs. Ruth Land, Mrs. Beatrice McNally and Mrs. Margaret St. Clair, all of Wichita; five sons, Harmon Herd, Dodge City; James Ward Herd, Wichita; Dewayne Herd, Protection; Hearn Herd, Protection; Ward Harmon, Protection; sisters, Mrs. Iva Watkins, St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Lora Stewart, Hutchinson; Mrs. Margaret Day, Marshfield, Mo.; Mrs. Opal Rhoten, Taft, Calif.; brothers, Elvin, Jim and John Herd, all of Coldwater.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Baptist church in Protection, with Rev. Marvin Alley and Rev. Delmar Burgess, officiating. Burial will be in the Protection cemetery.
