The Hiram and Fidelia Jordan Family
Hiram J. Jordan, son of William and Chloe (Downey) Jordan was born 18 August 1855 in Hiramsburg, Guernsey County, Ohio. He married Fidelia Angeline Lyons, daughter of Alexander F. and Sarah Lippett (Brown) Lyons on 20 December 1876 in Noble County, Ohio. She was born 22 Oct 1854 in Noble County, Ohio. Both Hiram & Fidelia Jordan are buried in the Protection Cemetery.
Their known children are: Henry Jordan, Delia Jordan (who married a Ramsey) and William Alex Jordan
They are in the 1920 Census, Protection Township, Protection, Kansas where Hiram is listed as age 64, farmer and his wife, Fidelia, age 64. Their son, William Alex Jordan was in 1925 the proprietor of the Protection Roller Mills.

William Alex Jordan, son of Hiram J. and Fidelia (Lyons) Jordan was born about 1880 in Ohio. He married Laura ____(?), who was born about 1888 in Kansas.

My grandfather, John A. Lyons took this photo in 1925 on their trip by car to visit grandpa's aunt's and their families in Kansas. His aunt, Fidelia Lyons, was wife of Hiram Jordan.
I only wish I had more information to share about the family of their life in Kansas. All I ever heard (and can remember) was that two of my grandfather's aunts moved out west with their families. My grandfather decided to take his wife Hazel, two sons Burton and Clifford and his Aunt Mattie and her husband Zue McFerren on a trip to visit them in 1925. Zue McFerren was related to Hi Jordan by marriage. Hi's sister Rebecca Jane Jordan, was married to John Wesley Jordan, brother to Joel McFerren who was Zue's father.

Hiram & Fidelia Jordan
By Ruth DenneyHiram J. Jordan and wife, Fedelia A. moved from their homestead in Harper County, Oklahoma, in 1918 to Protection, Kansas. Their son E. Jordan (born 1881, died 1966) , married Esta Beard Belcher (born 1883, died 1968) Feb. 1980. She was the mother of Marvin M. Belcher. They moved from a claim in Harper County, Oklahoma to Clark County, Kansas in 1923, then to Wilmore, Kansas in 1926. They retired to Coldwater, Kansas in 1958. He was a farmer. They had four children, Ruth M.; Selma E.; Harold W.; and Glenn W.
Ruth M. (born 1908) graduated from high school at Wilmore, Kansas in 1928 and attended one term at Salt City Business College at Hutchinson, Kansas. She married Clyde N. Denney in 1931. He worked for Sante Fe Railway, on the Robbins Ranch, Belvidere and Wilmore, Kansas, and on road construction of 160 Highway and retired from Comanche County Road Maintenence in 1964. They had six children: Mrs. Darl (Norma Jean) Starks of Belvidere, Kansas, who has two married children and three grandchildren; Mrs. Gayle(Patricia Louise) Thomas of Lake City, Kansas, who has three married children, three grandchildren and three step-sons; Mrs. Roy (Donna Kay) Harper of Perryton, Texas, who has three children, two of whom are married and one grandchild; Larry W. Denney of Wilmore, Kansas, who has two children and one step-son; Mrs. Johnnie ( Linda Joan) Graybill of Coffeyville, Kansas, who has three children, one married and one grandchild, and Lanny D. Denney of Garden City, Kansas, who has three children, one married and two grandchildren.
Zelma E. Jordan (born 1910) graduated from Wilmore High School in 1929 and from nurses' training at Wesley Hospital at Wichita, Kansas in 1933. She married Dave Reiswig in November, 1940, and moved to California about 1942. He died in 1962. She married Ben E. Jessup in 1968; he died in 1979. She retired and resides in Santa Barbara, California.
Harold W. Jordan (born 1913, died 1966) graduated from Wilmore High School. He married Vivian Sigman in 1939. They had four children: Robert R., of Chatsworth, California, who has two children; Gary L. of Salina, Kansas, who has two children; Marlene K. Shrontz of Nelson, Nebraska, who has two children, and Ricky Lynn of Hastings, Nebraska, who has three children.
Glenn W. Jordan (born 1916) graduated from Wilmore High School and married Esther Hubbard in 1940. They had one stillborn child and adopted a son, Leroy. He is a farmer and stockman and resides at Piedmont, Kansas.

Hiram J. Jordan
OBITUARYHiram J. Jordan, son of William and Chloe Dowey Jordan, was born near Hiramsburg, Noble County, Ohio, on August 18, 1855 and departed this life at the home of his son, Marion near Wilmore, Kansas at 6:30 o'clock on Dec. 10, 1937 after a year of illness, having taken sick on Dec. 20 of last year and only during the month of August was he able to attend the Sunday school and church service at the M. E. Church in Protection, Kansas, of which he had been a devoted member and attendant for a number of years.
He suddenly became more seriously ill on Sept. 3, 1937 and suffered greatly at times until death finally came to relieve his suffering the morning of Dec. 10, 1937.
Mr. Jordan was the youngest child of a family of twelve children, consisting of nine sons and three daughters, all of his brothers and sisters having preceded him in death some years ago. He was united in marriage on Dec. 20, 1876 to Fidelia A. Lyons of near Hoskinsville, Nobel County, Ohio. They celebrated their Golden Wedding day on Dec. 20, 1926. This union lasted until death took his devoted wife on November 22, 1930 after 53 years and 11 months of wedded life. To this union were born four children all of whom survive a hard working father: William A. of Miami, Florida, Marion (E. or L.) of near Wilmore, Kansas, Mrs. Leone D. Ramsey of the home in Protection, Kans. and Henry W. of Chicago, Ill. Mrs. Ramsey having made her home with her parents in Protection since the death of her husband Charley C. Ramsey in Dodge City, Kans.
In July 1924, Mr. Jordan moved from his home in Noble County, Ohio to near Great Bend, Kansas in the spring of 1901 where they remained until April 1903 when they moved to near Paruna, Okla., where he had taken up 160 acres of government homestead land. Here they lived a pioneer life until advancing age forced them to retire from the farm. Eighteen years ago they moved to Protection, Kansas where they bought a home and he has lived in the same home ever since until November 30, 1937 when it was deemed advisable to move him to the home of his son, Marion near Wilmore, Kansas. Mr. Jordan continued to work as a day laborer at any kind of work he could get to do until in September after he was eighty years of age in August prevented further hard work. He leaves to mourn the loss of a devoted father; four children, eight living grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one step great grandchild besides a host of friends.
OBITUARY
Fidelia A. Lyons, daughter of Alex and Sarah Lyons, was born in Nobel county, Ohio, October 22, 1854, and passed to the life beyond November 22, 1930, at the age of 74 (sic - should be 76) years and one month. Her passing came after almost a year of complete invalidism.
She was united in marriage with Hiram J. Jordon on December 2_, 1876. (appears to be 21) To this union four children were born, all of whom are still living. These children are W. A. Jordon of Miami, Fla., M. E. of Wilmore, H. W. Jordon of Chicago, and Mrs. Leona Ramsey of Protection. She is also survived by her husband, 8 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Jordon came to Barton county, Kans., in 1901 with Mr. Jordon and the children. They remained in Barton county for two years and then moved to Oklahoma and settled on a homestead, this and Protection being her home from that time until her death.
She was a member of the Protection Methodist church and had been a member of the Methodist church for 61 years. Having been a member of the church militant for many years, she has gone now to be a member of the church triumphant and eternal, forever.

While heaven and earth combine to say,
'How blest the righteous when he dies."
Funeral services were held at the Protection Methodist church on Sunday afternoon at 2:30, with Rev. A. L. Hughes, pastor, in charge. Interment was in the Protection cemetery.
