The people of this community were shocked on last Friday evening, November 25, 1921, to learn that Earle Lease had died at 5:30 p.m. on that day at his home in Kansas City, Mo. It was known that he was a sufferer from small pox and had been sick about two weeks, but on Wednesday of last week word was received here that his condition was much better. Evidently a change for the worse came on Thursday and the end came, as stated on Friday afternoon. Burial was made on Monday afternoon in Forest Hill cemetery in Kansas City, funeral services having been conducted from the undertaking establishment of Shehan & Son in that city.Earl Andrew Lease was born in Logan-co., Ohio, on April 17, 1882, and at the time of his death was 39 years, 7 months and 8 days of age. He came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Lease to Comanche-co. during the pioneer days of the county, and he had spent practically all his life here, devoting his time to farming until a few years ago when he became an employee of a large farm machinery manufacturing company. During the past three years he had lived most of the time in Larned. He and his family moved to Kansas City only a few months ago.
Earle was an industrious and dependable workman, and was well liked by those who knew him. He united with the Christian church in 1909. On October 28, 1914, in Nebraska City, Nebr., he was united in marriage with Miss Bessie James who, with one child, Ruth, aged about 5 survives him. He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Carrie Smith and Mrs. Fern Kehl of this city, Mrs. Kathryn Fisk of Dodge City and Mrs. Goldie Monroe of Dermot, Kans. The sympathy of all goes out to the relatives in their hour of sad bereavement.
Earle had only recently purchased a nice home at 3415 Agnes-ave., Kansas City, and at the time he was stricken with the dread disease he was working in the machine shops of the Frisco railroad. Lawrence Bratcher, James J. Holderby and James R. Shellenberger, now of Kansas City but formerly of this county, were three of the pallbearers at the funeral. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Geo. E. Everson, pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist church in Kansas City.
