Obituary

Pierson "Pete" Long was born on June 25, 1903 at Swanton, Nebr., the son of Samuel and Josephine Long, and died on Thursday, June 22, 1978. His parents died when he was but a boy, four years old. Then he went to live with Wm. and Leah Yost at Plymouth, Nebr.

He grew to manhood in Nebraska, later coming to Kansas to work on a farm. On July 29, 1942 he entered military service and served until he received an honorable discharge on April 30, 1943. He came back to Hesston, Kans., where he worked with his brother, Elmer.

Later, he came to Wilmore to make his home, working with several farmers in that area. Included in those for whom he worked was Harlie Yost, a nephew of William and Leah Yost of Plymouth, Nebr., who reared "Pete" after his parents' death. Harlan "looked after" "Pete's" interests for the past 15 years becoming his conservator after his health failed.

"Pete" worked in the Wilmore area until his failing health caused him to take residence at the Pioneer Lodge. On the 12th of this month, he suffered a heart attack and was hospitalized at Comanche County Hospital until the 20th. His health somewhat better, he returned to The Pioneer Lodge where he suddenly died on the 22nd.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Elmer and Bill. Survivors include a sister, Fern Fisher of Peabody, Kans., and a sister-in-law, Hazel Long. Elmer's wife, of Hesston.
