Wm. M. McCrary Found Dead on Lawn

Wm. M. McCrary, Coldwater retired farmer and former sheriff of Comanche county, was found dead by Sheriff Gloyd C. Hadley about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night of this week.

Mr. McCrary's .38 revolver was found lying on the ground a few feet away on the lawn of the Presbyterian church, northwest of the building. Other officials and a doctor were called and it was found that Mr. McCrary had been shot through the heart, with the muzzle of the gun placed close to his body. Apparently, he had been dead about an hour and a half when found. He left home about 8:30 and his wife thought he had gone down town. When he did not return, she called Mr. Hadley.

No one heard the report of the gun, although a congregational meeting was being held in the Presbyterian church basement.

Mr. McCrary had served Comanche county as sheriff for four years about 25 years ago and was an efficient and conscientious officer. He had been in ill health for a number of years and had been despondent for several months.

Funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian church in this city Friday afternoon, January 18, at 2:30 o'clock and burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery near this city.
