Monday the community was shocked to hear of the death of Sam (S. B.) Park at a hospital in Kansas City where he had gone some weeks ago for medical treatment for what was thought to be a minor ailment. He died Saturday of lobar pneumonia, whose ravages are quick and fatal.Mr. Park had been in failing health for some time but his trouble was thought to be of a minor nature but had undermined his system so that as pneumonia attacked him he was unable to resist the ravages of it.
Sam Park was one of Protection's best citizens. Quiet undemonstrative, industrious and successful, he was a loyal friend, and a good hustle. The community will miss him.
The remains were brought to Protection Monday and Tuesday burial, conducted by Rev. Bard of the Baptist denomination, was made in the Protection cemetery.
Obituary Samuel B. Park was born October 24, 1878, in Carroll county, Missouri, and departed this life at 8:50 Sunday morning, April 21, 1918, at a hospital in Kansas City. The remains were brought to Protection, Monday eve by his wife and brothers. After a night of rest at the home he was laid to rest at the Protection cemetery with services from the Christian church, Rev. Bard officiating. He leaves behind him a wife and five children, aged respectively, fourteen, twelve, five, four and eighteen months. Also three sisters and four brothers. He has lived for the past nine years four miles northwest of Protection. He was married to Miss Nettie Park of Englewood, Kansas, on December 18, 1911. He was a most devoted father, a dear companion and always entertained a very warm hearted feeling for all his friends. Death was caused by acute lobar pneumonia.
Gone in the prime of manhood,
Pain racked to be no more,
Angels sailed the ship that carried
His soul to that other side.Dreading the thought of leaving
His children and loving wife,
He bore his pain and heartache,
Seeing sweetness yet in life. When the call became insistent,
He resigned but feared the blow
That would fall on his loved companion;
The Gethsemane she must know. One brief caress and message
Were granted and all was done.
After a night of anguish,
The race with death was won. This was God's beautiful promise,
"Whatever in faith we ask;"
Then I begged him accept my darling
And whisper to me my task. So, may his gentle spirit,
Like a great, white, beautiful dove
Fly low over our stricken home
And sing its message of love.Circle, Oh circle, about us,
Oh, beautiful emblem of peace!
Bring in the aching heart throbs
The power to gently cease.'Tis well all well with us
Ship of life sail on, sail on,
Carrying all his loved ones
Safely where he has gone.Waiting, Oh waiting and watching,
Though the going be near or far,
Sam will wait with the anchor
Just over the harbor bar.
CARD OF THANKS Extending to all the many good, kind friends who so earnestly helped in the grief stricken hour my thanks, also the thanks of all our immediate relatives.
Mrs. Samuel B. Park.
