Mrs. Otto R. Sherman, whose health had been declining during the past 12 months, passed away at 1:05 Sunday, March 22, in the Comanche County Hospital, where she had been taken about a month before. Her death was due to a cancerous condition with which medical science could not cope.Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church in this city Tuesday afternoon, March 24, and were in charge of Rev. Dale Field, pastor of the Prairie Vale Friends church, assisted by Rev. Lyle H. Gillham, the Presbyterian pastor.
Mr. and Mrs. Gurney T. Hadley sang "In the Garden" and Marvin Plank sang "God's Tomorrow," accompanied by Mrs. E. H. Gregg, organist.
The pallbearers were Ephraim Robbins, Arthur Uhl, Raymond Lohrding, Walter Thompson, Chas. Burt and Clyde Marley. Burial was in Crown Hill cemetery.
Obituary. Elizabeth Irene Whitaker, daughter of Walter and Della May Whitaker, was born July 3, 1916, at Kansas City, Kans., and passed away in the Comanche County Hospital March 22, 1953, at the age of 36 years, 8 months and 19 days.
She grew to womanhood at Kansas City and was graduated from the Kansas City, Kans., high school.
On March 21, 1936, she was united in marriage in Topeka, Kans., with Otto R. Sherman of Coldwater, Kans. To this union were born two children, Barbara Irene, 13, and Larry Dennis, 7.
She leaves to mourn her passing her husband and their children, Barbara and Larry of the home, six stepchildren - Claude Sherman, Wichita, Kans.; Clayton and Clinton Sherman of Coldwater; June Burt of Lemmon, South Dakota; Jean Harris of Mountain Home, Idaho, and Norman Sherman of Anchorage, Alaska; also her mother, Mrs. Della May Whitaker, of Grain Valley, Mo.; two brothers, Clyde Whitaker and Floyd Whitaker of Grain Valley, Mo., and other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Sherman was a member of the Prairie Vale Friends Church and lived a consistent Christian life. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker and by her kindliness endeared herself to all who knew her.
