Last October, Mrs. Smart went to the home of her mother in Canada and brought Mrs. Tade to Protection. At that time the deceased was in very feeble health and it was thought that she could not live long. However after recovering from the effects of her long trip she rallied and had gained considerably for the past few months. But recently she suffered a relapse and the end came quickly. Heart disease and dropsy were the immediate cause of death though Mrs. Tade had been suffering from a complication of diseases.
Mrs. Tade was a pioneer women on the Western Kansas prairie. She came with her husband to Comanche county in 1885, and they established their home in Collier Flats, and here they reared to manhood and womanhood a large family. In her community, in days of her active life, she was a leader and one who was not only highly respected but dearly loved.
Some ten of twelve years ago, Mr. Tade sold the home south of Protection, now owned by F. C. Lindsey and known as the Troyer place, and the family emigrated to Arkansas. After two or three years residence in Arkansas, the family went to Canada, and here it was that Mrs. Tade, worn by years and the struggles incident to a long pioneer, life was stricken with her fatal illness.
The funeral was conducted from the Baptist church of which the deceased had long been a member, Sunday afternoon, after the arrival of the train. The funeral sermon was by the local pastor, Rev. Jasper Shoemaker, and interment was in the local cemetery.
