MRS. AWILDA BEHLER DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Mrs. Awilda Behler died Monday evening, December 7th, at her home in this city after an illness of long duration. Her husband preceded her in death on June 4th.

Funeral services were conducted in the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon with Rev. J. P. Woods of Sun City in charge. Burial was in Wilmore cemetery with Geo. Heraldson of Coldwater in charge.

A male quartet composed of Valtos and Royce Richardson, Nick Baker, and Ray Bigbee sang three songs, "All The Way My Savior Leads Me," "Never Grow Old" and "Asleep in Jesus." Misses Maxine Barber and Mildred DeMoss sang "When I Get to the End of the Way." Mrs. Nick Baker accompanied at the piano.

The pall bearers were Warren W. Day, C.V. Lott, Bruce Snare, L. L. Larimer, T. J. Foree and T. C. Pepperd.

The following obituary was read:

Alwilda Olders, daughter of Soloman and Mary Frances McCabe Royce was born September 24, 1855 in Shelby county, Illinois, and departed this life December 7, 1936, at her home in Wilmore, Kans., at the age of 81 years, two months and 13 days.

She was left without a mother at the age of fifteen. She took up the care that her mother laid down when the call for the mother to come home to her eternal rest. Taking the burden on her young shoulders, having the care of four brothers and two sisters, one of the sisters being only eleven days old. She did the best that she knew how, giving up school and all that was dear to a girl so young in trying to do her duty as an oldest daughter. She confessed her Savior when seventeen years old and always tried to be loyal to her Master.

She was married to John H. Behler on March 9, 1874 in Shelbyville, Ill. She was the mother of nine children, 6 boys and 3 girls. All grew to manhood and womanhood, but one son, who died in infancy.

The family came to Comanche county, Kansas in 1886 where she knew the trials of life in a then underdeveloped country. She always tried to do her duty, whatever was her lot.

The children are Carrie M. McKay of Coldwater, John (H), Frederick S. and Elbert E. all of Woodward, Okla., Geo. C. of Alamosa, Colo., Annie E. Skinner of Lockwood, Ohio, Elizabeth Hoge of Wichita and Samuel D. of Detroit, Mich.

Besides these children she raised two grandsons, James Behler of Wilmore and Roger Behler, who preceded her in death. She took James when he was six days old. She cared for the grandsons as she would have her own giving her life's devotion to the motherless children.

The body was held until Thursday morning for burial as the son, Samuel D. of Detroit, Mich. did not arrive here in time for the funeral. He arrived in Greensburg Wednesday night.
