Thomas J. Foree Dies in Wichita

Was Charter Member of Wilmore Lodge and Church

Funeral services for Thomas J. Foree were held in the Wilmore Baptist church Friday afternoon July 3, at 2:30 and were in charge of Rev. Orlie Wilbur of Winfield and Rev. Kenneth Merrifield, Wilmore pastor.

A male quartet composed of Gene Dorsey, Kenneth Merrifield, Rod Baker and Valtos Richardson sang "Face to Face" and "When I Come to the End of the Way." Mrs. Frances Ridge accompanied them on the piano.

Burial was in the Wilmore cemetery, with Wilmore Lodge No. 412, A. F. & A. M. in charge of the services. Pallbearers were Earl Ferrin, Fay Smith, T. C. Pepperd, Lester Larimer, Ernest Ferrin and Marvin Downing.

Obituary

Thos. J. Foree was born August 3, 1869, near Williamstown, Mo., the son of James Madison and Mary E. Foree, and departed this life June 30, 1953, in Wesley Hospital, Wichita, Kans., at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 27 days.

He came to Coldwater in 1899, where he was married to Nannie T. Jackson December 24, 1899. He and Mrs. Foree spent many years farming in the New Eden neighborhood. To this union five children were born, Thomas M. Foree, deceased; R. Bruce Foree, Wichita; Wallace A. Foree, Hayward, Calif.; Mrs. Omar Forbes, Hutchinson; and Mrs. J. Hayden Pyeatt, Fairfax, Mo.

His wife and the eldest son, Thomas M., preceded him in death.

At an early age he was converted and joined the Baptist church and was a faithful member throughout his life. He was a charter member of the Wilmore Baptist church.

He was a member of Wilmore Lodge No. 412, A. F. & A. M., the Wichita Consistory Scottish Rite, the Royal Arch, and the Midian Shrine. He served one term in the Kansas Legislature as representative from Comanche county.

Mr. Foree leaves to mourn his loss two daughters, two sons, a sister, Mrs. L. May Daniels of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
