Donald Monroe Bliss died December 3, 1981, at the Alva Share Medical Center, Alva, Ok., at the age of 72 years, three months and 16 days.He was born to Amelia (Knabe) and Frank Bliss August 18, 1909 near Lookout, Ok. He attended Coy Rural School and worked on farms and ranches in the Coldwater and Freedom, Ok., area and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army.
On December 28, 1949 he married Nellie Knabe at Hopkinsville, Ky., and the couple lived in Tennessee and Illinois until 1958 when they moved to Alva where he worked in construction until his retirement in 1962.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Josie Peterson and Majorie Carr and a brother, Loren.
Funeral was December 5, 1981 at Wharton Funeral Chapel, with interment at the Alva Municipal Cemetery.
Survivors include: wife Nellie, of the home; four step daughters and their husbands, Lola Broome of Anacortes, Wash., Dona and Lynn Louthan of Enid, Ok., Vera and Harry Ditton, Bonnie and Wilbur Province and a stepson and his wife, Buckley and Bonnie Knabe, all of Alva; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; five sisters, Marie Lamb of Fresno, Calif., Manie Brown, Maye and William Neukirch and Roberta and Lloyd Malone and Wilma and Clinton Cashwell, all of Coldwater; four brothers and their wives, Glenn and Frances of Enid, Ok., Jack of Montrose, Colo., John and Florence and Kenneth and Vi, all of Coldwater; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

"Pfc. Bliss saw three years service in the AUS, two of them spent in the European Theater of Operations. He is the wearer of the ETO ribbon, good conduct ribbon, combat infantry badge, three battle stars, Purple Heart and the Silver Star. He served with the Engineers. He has re-enlisted with the Engineers and has chosen to serve in the European Theater." --The Western Star, March 29, 1946."
