Auto Accident Fatal To Billy G. Crowe

Had Returned From Korean Service the Last of December

Services for Billy Gwayne Crowe, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Crowe of Greenburg, following his tragic death in a car accident near Garfield, Kans., on March 26, were held in the Presbyterian church in Coldwater Tuesday afternoon, March 29, at 2:30 o'clock. They were in charge of Rev. L. H. Gillham, the pastor.

A mixed quartet composed of Evelyn and Gene Dorsey, Rod Baker and Mary Lee Cobb of Wilmore sang "Good Night and Good Morning" and "Nearer My God to Thee," accompanied by Mrs. E. H. Gregg on the organ.

The pallbearers were Richard and Donald York, Gary, Richard and Weldon Trummel and Ivan Booth of Wilmore. Military services at the grave were in charge of the Greensburg V.F.W. Post. Interment was in Crown Hill cemetery near Coldwater.

Obituary.

Billy Gwayne Crowe, eldest son of Clyde W. and Evena Crowe, was born on February 19, 1932, at Coldwater, Kans., and was injured fatally in an auto accident near Garfield, Kans., on March 26, 1955, at the age of 23 years, 1 month and 5 days.

He grew to manhood and attended school in the Coldwater and Wilmore communities. He was graduated from the Wilmore high school with the class of 1950.

He moved with his family to Greensburg in 1951, where he engaged in carpenter work with his father until entering military service on January 27, 1952. His basic training was completed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, and after a short leave went to Korea, serving with the 8th Army there for 18 months. He was honorably released from active duty on December 7, 1954, having achieved the rank of Corporal during this period.

While in the service of his county, Bill was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, two overseas bars, National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, ROK Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal and Meritorious Unit Emblem.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his father and mother, Greensburg; two brothers, Jerry Duane Crowe, with the U. S. Navy, attending Builders School at Port Hueneme, Calif.; and Donald Guy Crowe, SN, USS Des Moines, Norfolk, Virginia; his grandmother, Mrs. Henry Hecht, Coldwater, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy W. Crowe, Greensburg, Kansas and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bill was an ambitious young fellow and had high ideals. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
