Fred Foster, 78, died Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at his residence in Topeka, Kansas. Born July 9, 1922, at Protection, Kansas, the son of Fred and Julia Esther (Alexander) Foster, he was a longtime employee of Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company as a laboratory manager, before retiring in 1984.

He was a longtime resident of the Kismet/Liberal area, moving to Kansas City in 1976, and then to Topeka in 1997. He graduated from Protection High School in 1940, received a bachelor degree from Northwestern State University, Alva, Oklahoma, in 1949, and received a M.B.A. from Oklahoma University, Norman, Oklahoma, in 1972. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lone Grove, Oklahoma. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge and served on the School Board in Kismet, Kansas. On October 25, 1942, he married Ida Mae Riner at Hutchinson, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 20, 2001. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister: Madelyn Gohn. He is survived by two sons: Bill Foster and his wife Jean Ann of Liberal, Kansas, and Greg Foster and his wife Donna of Topeka, Kansas; one daughter: Mindy Moff and her husband Ted of Opelousas, Louisiana; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral service is at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2001, at the United Methodist Church, Protection, Kansas, with Rev. Dennis Carter presiding. Burial will follow the funeral service at Protection Cemetery, Protection, Kansas.
