Mrs. August Metzger a pioneer settler in Comanche county, died at her home in this city last Saturday, February 12, following a prolonged illness. She had suffered almost continuously for many months.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in this city on Monday afternoon, and were in charge of the pastor, Rev. Thomas Palmer. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends and there were many floral offerings. Burial was made in Crown Hill cemetery.

The singing at the funeral services were furnished by Mrs. Orland Vermillion and Roy Cline who sang as a duet "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." Roy sang "When I Take My Vacation in Heaven" and Mrs. Vermillion sang, "Beulah Land."

The pall bearers were: Frank and Ralph Todd, Bert Klingensmith, Nick Pepperd, Gus Bramlett and H. Ennis.

Lizzie A. Tingler, daughter of Carl and Dora Tingler, was born on November 2, 1872, at Bloomington, Ill., and departed this life February 12, 1938, at the family home in Coldwater, being 65 years, 2 moths and 12 days of age. When a child of 14, she moved with her parents to a claim in Avilla township, this county, where she made her home until June 1, 1892, when she was united in marriage with August Metzger. They with their family, have made Comanche county their home ever since, with the exception of a few years spent in Oklahoma and in Arkansas.

At an early age Mrs. Metzger united with the Methodist church, but of late years had attended the Christian church. She leaves to mourn her loss her faithful husband, August Metzger, and eleven children - Eddie, Bennie, August and Frank Metzger, Mrs. Katie Murphy, Mrs. Dora Steadman, Mrs. Emma Parsons, all of Coldwater; Oscar, Victor and George Metzger, all of Augusta, Kans., and two sisters, and one brother - Mrs. Emma Kenny of Mooreland, Okla., Mrs. Hulda Wiley of Prealta, N. M. and Charley Tingler of Mooreland, Okla. One daughter, Mary, and one grandson preceded her in death.

Thus passes another pioneer mother - one who was a loving wife, a kind and and devoted mother and a helpful neighbor. The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of all.

Dear little mother, you have gone;
Fond memories of you will linger on.
We'll always remember your sweet smiling face,
For no one can take your place.
You've lived your life to its fullest extent.
Rearing children, your time well spent.
He who doeth all things well.
Has called you home with Him to dwell.

Levi Steadman, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Steadman, and Mrs. Dora Case, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Metzger, were united in marriage on June 10, 1925, in this city, Probate Judge M. M. Cosby officiating. The couple went to Dodge City on the following day on a visit with relatives. They will make their home in this county, the groom having a crop of wheat on one of the Jacob Reiss farms. The Star wishes Mr. and Mrs. Steadman a long, happy and prosperous married life.

(Dora Case was the mother of Lt. Clifford E. Case, USNR, a WWII F6F Hellcat fighter pilot who won the Air Medal. She was the sister of August A. Metzger, Jr.)
