Iris (Brasher) Metzker was born Aug. 9, 1899 at Greenville, Ky., the daughter of William H. and Magdalyn (Ewing) Brasher. She passed away Sunday, Nov. 1, 1961 in the Harper District Hospital in Harper at the age of 82 years.She attended schools in Greenville. She was united in marriage with Ira L. Metzker Feb. 11, 1916 in Greenville. They came to Kansas later that same year. They were parents of five children: Leighton, Norma Joyce, Roberta, George Ellen, and Jack. The family moved to Anthony in 1938 from Coldwater.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died Oct. 21, 1968; a daughter, Norma Joyce, who died in infancy; and a son, Ira Leighton, who was killed during World War II.
Survivors include one son, Jack M. Metzker, and his wife, Eleanor, Hurst, Tex.; two daughters, Roberta, her husband, Frank Palmer, Wichita and George Ellen, and husband, Jimmie Galloway of Blackwell, Okla.; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Nov. 4, 1981 in the Elliott Chapel in Anthony, Rick Connelly, pastor of the First Christian Church officiating.
Mrs. Gene Cleveland sang "We'll Talk It Over" and "Peace in the Valley." An organ solo "Galway Bay" was played by Mrs. Byron Meador.
Graveside services were also Nov. 4 in Crown Hill Cemetery, Coldwater.
