Lula Agnes Gregg, daughter of Frank and Lucie Metzker, was born April 8, 1879 at Greenville, Ky. She moved to New Harmony, Ind., at the age of three.
The Frank Metzker family moved to Comanche county in October 1904 and resided on the Biddle Ranch. She came to visit her family at Christmas time, where she met her husband.
She and Philo Gregg were married in February 1905. They resided on the ranch until his death February 10, 1946, when she moved to her present home in Coldwater.
To this union were born two sons and three daughters. Two daughters, Mildred and Dorothy, preceded her in death.
She and her husband worked hard and suffered many hardships in the early days of this county. They have left much for their family -- both in spiritual as well as material possessions.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and until her illness, attended regularly.
She passed away in the Comanche County Hospital at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 11 days, after spending 7 weeks there.
She is survived by her children, Muriel and Helene, Charles and Clyda, and Donald and Rachael. Seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Minera Cline, Coldwater, and Mrs. Aline Templin, Gig Harbor, Washington; one brother, Robert Metzker, Coldwater, and many other relatives and friends. She will be missed by her family for she was dear to them.

At right: The Gregg Ranch BrandThe Gregg Ranch, formerly known as the Biddle Ranch, was acquired by the late Mr. and Mrs. C.F. Biddle, who came to Comanche County in 1888.
His step-son, Philo Gregg, came to Comanche County in 1904 and he and Mrs. Gregg continued to make their home on the Biddle Ranch until his death February 10, 1946. The ranch is now owned and operated by Mrs. Lula Gregg, Muriel and Charles Gregg and Donald Booth.

Three men branding a calf
Comanche County? Don't know who or where. To me, they look a little dressed up, perhaps they set up this photo for "show."

"In the picture 'Three Men Branding a Calf' - notice that the one man only has one arm. That is probably Philo Gregg -- Lula (Metzker) Gregg's husband! He was one-armed!" - Comment by Phyllis Scherich, e-mail to Jerry Ferrin, 18 November 2006.
