The Protection Post, June 5, 1942.

Rites Held For Clyde Moore

The community has been grieved at the loss of another one of its honored citizens, and met Sunday afternoon, May 31, in the Church of Christ for the funeral services of Clyde S. Moore. The sermon preached by the pastor, Arlo Snodgrass, was based on the favorite scripture verse of Clyde Moore which are given below, Rev. Heltmeyer assisted at the service.

Three hymns, "Beautiful Isle" "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden" were sung by a mixed quartet composed of Medames Jake Leeper and Ben Zane and Charles Petty and Clarence Harden. Mrs. Lewis Hopkins served as pianist.

Honorary pall bearers were Carl Bond, Eugene Bilyeu, C. E. Harden, Leroy Smith, J. E. Decker and L. R. Bayless. Active pall bearers included Frank Rogers, Ivel Harvey, Ben Zane, Edgar Deck, John Hazen and Alva Morlan.

The ushers were Wayne Zane and Howard Burghardt.

Interment was made in the Protection cemetery. The Peacock Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Moore's death brought to a close a life of devotion to his church and of service to his friends and neighbors. He had spent many years in this community where he had been actively engaged as painter and paper hanger until recently when his health had not permitted it. His place in the community and particularly in church affairs will be a hard one to fill.

Those attending the services from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Hyte Towner and son, Cleo of Rolla, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Brubaker of McPherson, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Willard Cox and son Ronnie of Larned, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Ross Bair and family of Minneola, Kans.; Mr. and Mrs. Bert Young of Coldwater; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin A. Towner and family of Buffalo, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. C. A. McFarland, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. McFarland, Mr. and Mrs. John Craig, and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Daily and family all of Ashland, and many of the old neighbors and friends in the Lexington neighborhood.

OBITUARY

Clyde Stanley Moore

In Memory of Clyde Stanley Moore who was born September 27, 1879 at Wellington, Kansas and went to his rest at 7:30 a.m. May 29, 1942 at his home in Protection, Kansas, having attained the age of 62 years, 8 months and 2 days.

Clyde was the fourth son of John Ke_r and Molly C. or G. (Dunham) Moore of Wellington. He was reared in a Christian atmosphere. His father even gave up the practice in the profession of law because he felt it conflicted with his Christian beliefs.

Clyde was married to Lyda Emmalinn Towner (sic), older daughter of William H. and Margaret A. Towner, at Wellington where he spent 35 years of faithful living. During this time Clyde followed the trade of painter and paper hanger. In January 1903 Clyde was baptized into Christ in the Church of Christ at Wellington. He was one of the charter members of the Church of Christ in Protection, and was elected one of its first deacons. Shortly after the present church building was dedicated he was elected and ordained an elder, in which office he served until his death. His last public act of service, just one week previous to his death, was to act as usher at the funeral of Sadie Denny, a life long friend and fellow worker in the church. His friends know how faithful was his life as a true follower of Jesus Christ.

Clyde leaves to mourn his passing, his faithful wife Lyda, an adopted son, Duane N. Moore of Protection, one brother, William T. Moore of Ashland and 18 nieces and nephews as well as other relatives and a host of friends and neighbors.

To those of us who knew him, Clyde Moore's life speaks a greater message than words could deliver. Three of his favorite Bible quotations were: "Be ye, therefore, ready for no man knoweth the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man cometh." - Matt. 24. "Study to show thyself approved unto God a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth." - Tim. 2:15. "Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God, believe also in me." - John 14:1.
