The Western Star, May 4, 1923.

DEATH OF C. C. TOWNER.

C. C. (Mont) Towner died at 3 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 1923, at his home 8 miles northwest of Protection, after an illness which began last December and which was caused by lung trouble. His age at the time of his death was about 55 years. Burial was made in the Protection cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, the burial service being in charge of the Masons.

The funeral services were conducted from the home, and were attended by a large number of neighbors and friends.

Mr. Towner was a pioneer settler near Protection, having come to this part of the state about 39 years ago. He was acquainted with about every old timer in this and Clark-co. and had a prominent part in helping to develop the county. He had devoted his time and attention principally to farming, and had built up a good home.

Mr. Towner was an upright citizen, a good neighbor and a kind husband and father. He was twice married, his first wife dying a number of years ago. He was later united in marriage with Miss Blanche Denney, daughter of D. B. Denney of the Lexington neighborhood. To this union were born three children, who, with the wife, survive. Mr. Towner is also survived by his mother, who makes her home in Protection, and by three brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Ben, Hite and Harry Towner. The sisters are Mrs. Clyde Moore and Mrs. Clifford McFarland, all of the Protection or Ashland neighborhoods. The surviving relatives have the sympathy of all in this their hour of sorrow and bereavement.
